Hazardous outdoor environments?

Outdoor safety is important because of the many potential hazards in the yard or associated with outdoor structures, the age and condition of outdoor items, the weather and the time of day.

Some tips from WA’s Stay On Your Feet website include:

  • Keep pathways free of pots and overgrown plants
  • Keep footpaths and outdoor areas free from damaged pavers
  • Make sure footpaths and entrances are well lit
  • Put garden tools away as soon as you finish using them
  • Wear enclosed slip-resistant shoes with good grip while outside
  • Use a slip-resistant treatment on slippery outdoor surfaces
  • Fit pets with a collar and bell

Objects on the ground can often be trip hazards, while clutter outdoors is as dangerous as it is indoors.

It’s not too hard to make your home safer today. You may wish to consult a physiotherapist or occupational therapist to help. The small investment of time, effort and if needed a few dollars today, will keep you or someone your care for safer tomorrow. Stay safe – from the Jasmine team!
