Balancing better means feeling better!

Recently I have worked with several older adults who have balance problems. Fortunately with the right assessment and program to do a few times a week at home, they have really improved. The extra mobility and confidence has been great for them, their families and friends.

Did you know that from around the age of 50 we very gradually start to lose muscle strength and things like the ability to stand on one leg?

It’s such a slow change that many people don’t notice it too much until their 70’s and 80’s. If combined with illness or injury however, this normal loss can contribute to poor balance, but the good news is that a strength and balance program can decrease the risk of falling and bring back some of the things that make life so enjoyable! If you or someone you know has fallen or is having balance problems, consider a physiotherapy assessment. You can make an appointment with or without a doctor’s referral, as physiotherapists are qualified to make a diagnosis. Clients may also be eligible for visits under an Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) plan from a general practitioner.
